Philip Eves

Children's-Library-Bookcase.jpg

Huge thanks to craftsman Philip Eves for all the wonderful items he has created for LLA!  His newest project is magnificent 3 part bookcase to house the Children’s Nature Library.  Note also the smaller matching bookcase.  All of Philip’s projects for LLA are made from the Leopold Red Oak Birth Tree that blew down in a 2013 storm.  The Starker grandparents planted red oaks to commemorate the births of each of their 4 grandchildren.

Right:  Phil working on the triple bookcase.  This was a challenging and complex project because of the corner construction.  But that’s what makes it beautiful.

Phil constructs his projects in his workshop, so it had to be transported to the site and installed.  Thanks to Tobin and Aiden Krell for helping with the moving.

Left:  Phil created our conference table out of a single piece of red oak.  At approximately 123 years old, it was huge!  The slab is from about 15’ up on the truck.  The bow ties are made of Leopold Maple that we used to save the entire slab, showing the width of the massive tree that blew down.

Right:  The red oak lamp that Phil created especially for LLA.

The bed in the boy’s bedroom was also built from birth tree oak.  Guests love sleeping in Aldo’s room in a “Leopold Tree”!

Thanks again Phil—for all you have generously made for LLA.
